How Is Functional Medicine Different.?

Functional Medicine is about early detection, prevention and reversal of chronic disease. Assessments consist of extensive testing not routinely done in the conventional model of medicine at your regular doctor’s office. Nutritional and physical fitness evaluation is a critical part of the process. Chronic stress affects our bodies in profound ways so stress management also plays a key role in healing chronic issues. In Functional Medicine we create a health program that is unique and specific for the symptoms and conditions you have. This program requires that you, your doctor, your nutritionist and other practitioners such as an Acupuncturist or Person Trainer will work together as a team. Your specific team will depend on your personal needs and goals. As a result of your program, you will have more energy, decreased body fat, increased lean body mass and overall improvement in the quality of your life.
Functional medicine is very different from the traditional disease-centered focus of medical practice. We take a patient-centered approach addressing the whole person at once instead of focusing on isolated symptoms. Functional medicine practitioners spend extensive time with their patients, listening to their histories and evaluating the interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health and complex, chronic disease. The treatment plan for the patient is uniquely created based on the genetic factors, nutritional status, hormone levels and other relevant findings on testing and examination.
Linette F. Williamson, M.D. ABAARM

Dr. Williamson also loves spending time with family, working out at the gym with her personal trainer (her husband), reading, and the beautiful San Diego beaches where she spends as much time as possible. You may very well find her out for an early morning surf or watching a sunset on one of her favorite beaches.
